Where to begin.
Someone had clearly keyed the car on the passenger car from headlight to the hatch. Something something BMW parking.
Both door panels weren’t even properly attached. Interior trim pieces were all fallen off. Everything was brittle. It was literally falling apart.
The bead around the windshield was completely rotted, to the point where you could see the finished edge of the glass.
When running, the entire cabin stunk of coolant and burning oil. You couldn’t sit in it without feeling fizzy.
Salesman said it had a clean carfax, but was unwilling to provide it.
Also, the passenger side airbag cover was protruding — by over an inch. The cover didn’t match the rest of the shade of black in the interior.
The airbag light was, of course, on.
“Why is the airbag light on?”
“Ummm....”
About 15 seconds of silence. And then he tried to actually close the driver’s door on me.
“I’m done. Thanks.”
Thanks for reading :D

Heater core is bad, windshield cowl is an 80 dollar piece of plastic, door clips are made of broken dreams in Dingolfing. My white trash neighbors keyed my 7 the first week I brought it home, so I give the scratch skepticism or benefit of the doubt.

Good from afar but far from good. Just think, there’s a buyer for every car :-/

That’s all fairly typical for an E36 that hasn’t been babied, their interiors are awful quality compared to anything earlier. Also if you’re thinking of an E36, the ti’s have E30 rear suspension, so they aren't as nice to drive as the sedans and coupes with multilink setups. The airbag cover is an anomaly though, that seems pretty suspect.

You need a 4runner or LC.

It was probably the worst interior I’ve ever been in. This car felt like it was left to rot in the sun for decades.

And they wonder why I’m a Toyota fanboy.

If I could find a $4k one like opposaurus did, and prepared for inevitible fixes, maybe, MAYBE. But if I’m dropping $7,8,9k on anything, there’s nothing left for repairs.

This one might make a good starting point for someone trying to build a rally car.

What was the mileage on it? My friends E36 that was in otherwise good condition for a 400k car, had many of the same interior issues. Separating door panels, broken vents and such, sagging headliner, I can't remember what else. It's amazing how bad they are compared to the quite solidly built E30 interiors

Good god, even mine didn’t look that bad. That sounds like it was wrecked and very, very poorly put back together again.

The only E36 I’ve driven was in about rh same condition. It was 325i but even with the. 6 cylinder it was sloooooooow, something had to have been wrong with it, and the clutch slipped so be that even on dirt you could break the tires loose. In stark contrast the only E30 I've driven was a dream, drove smooth, everything felt well put together, and the was pretty fun to drive. Even though I it was a 325e.

Damn, would have loved to see another person become a ti owner but that one does look pretty awful. If you’re seriously in the market for one, pop over to 318ti.org. Theres a good number of dedicated members still active on there with a large-ish Pacific Northwest contingency. Also, if you have any questions about the ti, feel free to ask away, I’ve had a few and currently use one as my autocross/track car so I know my way around them and am familiar with any and all issues one might come across.

Thanks. The door is not closed. I did like what I saw in person. If I came across a good example, I would probably pursue it.
